At 21, Om Katira Becomes One of the Youngest Skydiving Trainers, Helping Shape Aerosports Growth in India

As aerosports continue to expand across India, 21-year-old Om Katira has emerged as one of the youngest skydiving instructors and coaches in the country, contributing to the development and accessibility of the sport.

Katira began his journey in aerosports at the age of 16 with solo paragliding, gaining foundational experience in air assessment, meteorology, flight control, and terrain-based decision-making. This early exposure laid the groundwork for his transition into skydiving at 18, one of the most technically demanding disciplines in aviation sports.

Since then, he has completed over 500 skydives, gaining experience in freefall stability, body control, canopy piloting, deployment procedures, and safety systems, while progressing through structured training and certification levels.

Beyond personal flying achievements, Katira has played an active role in introducing and mentoring over 1,000 individuals in paragliding and skydiving, contributing to increased participation and awareness of aerosports in India.

“My focus is to keep growing aerosports in India and introduce more people to the sport in a safe and structured way,” said Om Katira.

Katira is associated with leading aviation and parachuting organizations including the Aero Club of India, United States Parachute Association, Association of Paragliding Pilots and Instructors, and the Billing Paragliding Association.

His journey reflects a broader shift in Indian aerosports, where young pilots are not only progressing through advanced technical training but also actively contributing to instruction, safety awareness, and the expansion of the sport.
